This type specimen book aims to showcase the beauty and elegance of the typeface Optima. The brief required the use of only typographic elements of the typeface to create a visual language of images and patterns across the pages. I aimed to highlight the features of the letterforms throughout this publication, where the design elements of rotation, cropping, and scale were used to best illustrate the curves and angles of Optima.
The rhythm and flow of the book are determined by the placement of elements, where space is used effectively through the combination of spacious and crowded page layouts to add variety to the design and best appeal to the reader experience. The minimal colour palette of black, white, and red was chosen to convey the classic, timeless appearance of Optima. This helps develop the bold and striking style of this publication design while not detracting from the typeface. Overall, this type specimen book employs a luxurious and high-end feel which ties into the aesthetic of the Optima typeface.
